Bramford CEVC
Primary School
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We have been learning about counties and the countries of the GB in Geography and enjoying filling in maps and using atlases.
In science we are continuing to learn about light and classifying materials according to whether they are opaque, transparent or translucent.
In English we had a look inside the suitcase to look for clues as to where it might have been from and what our next writing book might be about.
We also enjoyed the visit from the Olympian athlete where we worked hard to complete different circuit activities!
Year 5 enjoyed their STEM session with Dom, Michala and the Sphero Bolt kit. They used the tablets to code the Spheros, making them move, turn, light up and make sounds. Year 5 also learned about how coding skills relate to lots of jobs we might want to do in the future. Dom and Michala told Year 5 all about the large variety of jobs that will be available in a few years as Sizewell C power station is built. There will be apprenticeships for 16 and 18 year olds in lots of areas. It’s been an inspiring morning
We have started this term by beginning our voyage into space. Through exposing the children to this topic within writing, reading, science and topic, we hope to dive deep and shoot for the stars with our learning. Our maths unit is also progressing, as we learn about: percentage, fraction and decimals; consolidating previous learning. The children will also practise their arithmetic skills each week, where results will be examined and gap-filling can continue, as well as much more coverage across the curriculum. We look forward to demonstrating our learning this term.
The children in Foxes and Woodpeckers have been immersed in the magic of winter as they explored the snowy weather outdoors. Our youngest learners delighted in the sensory experience of snow — feeling its texture, noticing how it melts, and using descriptive language to talk about what they could see, hear, and feel. They experimented with mark‑making in the snow, observed footprints, prints left by snow angels and the feeling the crunch under their feet.
Year 1 children continued thinking further about the winter weather by creating list of adjectives to describe the snow and ice such as 'sparkly', 'frozen' and 'soft' which they then used to create a piece of writing about the winter weather.
During our last celebration assembly of the term, FOBs announced the lucky winners and runners up of their bauble competition for each class. We also had Josh our sports coach join us as he had noticed someone from KS1 and KS1 who have been ACE during their PE sessions. They were awarded with a PE award for their ability to show great sportsmanship, determination and perseverance.
Year 3 have been using their newfound column addition knowledge to transfer to learning column subtraction. We are learning our times table facts at quicker rates and enjoying our Multiplication Mountain work. In English we have written a newspaper article by using the facts we have read and discovered when researching Tutankhamun's tomb discovery which happened in 1922! We have extended our vocabulary with new topic related words and used these in context, we have learned to use; the past tense, extend our descriptions using noun phrases and chosen fronted adverbials to add suspense and interest. We have had lots of fun with our Science lessons and now have found out about the water cycle, we can label the parts of the process and explain the meaning of the new vocabulary we have been taught. Also we have shown lots of enthusiasm to play the recorder in our weekly Music lessons.
We came together for our Christingle service which is a special celebration that helps us think about the meaning of Christmas and the message of hope, light, and love. The children created their own Christingles at home and brought them along to our service - they all looked ACE! During our Christingle Service we remembered the importance of each part of the Christingle and the mean they have a meaning:
The orange represents the world
The red ribbon reminds us of God’s love
The sweets symbolise the gifts of creation
The candle stands for Jesus as the Light of the World.
Together we remembered the story of the first Christmas, sang songs and our Year 6 lit their Christingles.
EYFS put on a spectacular performance of the Nativity where they retold the story of the first Christmas. They all sang beautifully, remembered their lines and places on the stage. I am sure you will agree they were ALL ACE! It was a great start to the festivities and thank you to all of you who came to enjoy the nativity with us.
We are delighted to share that the St Mary’s Church Christmas Festival is taking place this weekend. As a school, we have proudly decorated four beautiful Christmas trees for the event, each representing a different phase of our school community.
We warmly encourage you to visit the church with your children and see if they can spot the ACE decorations they created on:
EYFS – Father Christmas Tree
KS1 – Shepherds and Sheep Tree
LKS2 – We Three Kings Tree
UKS2 – Away in a Manger Tree
It’s a wonderful festive event and a lovely opportunity for the children to see their work on display. We hope you enjoy the celebration!
Bramford U11s Boys Football Team played Clifford Road Primary yesterday afternoon. The match was close and competitive, with both teams fighting hard and showing some excellent defending. Unfortunately, this time Bramford lost 1–0 to a breakaway goal.
The boys showed great sportsmanship and congratulated the other team on their efforts. Thnk you as always to our parent supports and Mr Vickers and Mrs Harvey for their coaching enthusiasm and commitment. We appreciate all you do.
Well done, Bramford boys – you are ACE!
