  • Digestive Fun in Year 4

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Mr Becker

Magpies completed a science experiment this week, replicating the digestive system in the human body.

This involved putting some food (banana and cracker) in a bowl and mashing it up with a fork (replicating the mouth) before adding water as saliva.

When mashed they passed this into the stomach, via the oesophagus by tipping the contents into a plastic bag. They added orange juice (acid) and water (enzymes) to break down the food.  They then passed this into the intestines (pair of tights), and squeezed out all the goodness from the food.

  • Walk to School Campaign

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Mr Becker

Last academic year, we managed over 22,000 active and sustainable trips to school as a whole school. What an amazing impact this will have on our own health and well-being as well as the planet as a whole.

Starting this coming week, the school will be starting their Walk to School challenge for this academic year, making active trips to school to earn monthly reward badges for their efforts.

With 22,000 active and sustainable trips completed last year, lets see if we can do even more this year!

    Good luck to everyone!!

She was Suffolk’s second leading scorer, and was voted by the opposing coaches as the ‘Best Sports Person’, an individual award given to the player who displayed the best sportsmanship and attitude throughout the day.

Freya received a runners up medal for her team's achievement and a trophy for her Sports Person award.

Well done Freya for your achievements and recognition for such ACE sportsmanship!

  • Walking for Water in Year 6

Wed 28 Sep 2022 Mr Becker

In Owls class, they read ‘Walking for Water’ and then interviewed Linesi to find out how she felt about going to fetch water each day instead of going to school. They tried out carrying water themselves and found that a bucket of water is not only very heavy, but also not enough for a whole day!

    Our quiz included these questions:

    - How many litres of water should we drink each day?

    - Roughly how much water does it take to flush a toilet? - How many litres are in one bucket?

Sun 25 Sep 2022 Mr Becker

During our water week, the Year 3 class tried to see if they could make water travel using cups and string. They were all so surprised to see how the water clung onto the string as it poured from one cup to another! They were all successful too!

Here is Mr Barnes showing us how it is done.

  • This week in KS1 🦔🐦🐇

Wed 21 Sep 2022 Miss Bartlett

Year 1 and Year 2 have been very busy this week and have been exploring their new topic 'Toys through time'. In Literacy we have been reading the story 'Dogger' and have thought about the toys we play with at home and at school. The Year 1s have used adjectives to describe their toys and the Year 2s have had a go at using expanded noun phrases. In Maths the Year 1s have been looking at consolidating their knowledge of numbers to 20 and the Year 2s have been partitioning numbers to 100!
