Our Recovery or Return to School Curriculum

When the children all first returned to school in September 2020 after the National lockdown caused by the pandemic, we were very excited to offer them a 'recovery curriculum.'

The recovery curriculum focused on supporting the children’s emotional well-being, their mental and physical health and enabled them to refresh the key skills they need to be effective and ready learners, such as our ACE particles and their basic skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening and maths.

We found the recovery curriculum had such a wonderful impact on our pupils. They were quickly re-engaged with school and their learning. It allowed time for relationship building. Pupils developing their learning skills and tools through our ACE values and particles. They refreshed their basic skills, preparing them to move on to the next stage of their learning. They enjoyed outdoor learning and plenty of opportunities to learn in a range of curriculum subjects which boosted their physical and mental health and wellbeing.  We therefore decided it would be something we would like to keep in order to support our pupils' return to school every school year.

Each recovery or return to school curriculum unit of work is based around a carefully chosen text or texts which children of all ages could engage with and reflected our curriculum drivers.

With everyone across the school working from a shared starting point we were able to celebrate our learning altogether - even when we were in separate bubbles! - creating a strong sense of shared learning and community and supporting our vision and values of Living in Unity…Together we are ACE (Aspiration and Combined Excellence for Everyone).
