Being a Geographer

Our high-quality Geography curriculum will inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination about the world.  Geography will help pupils to become knowledgeable citizens, concerned about the future of the world, able to raise and answer questions and understand key geographical concepts and skills.

Teaching will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

We want our children to gain confidence and practical experiences of geographical knowledge and understanding and this is why we provide rich memorable experiences so children can develop these skills in a variety of ways, settings and contexts. These include: field trips to local woodlands and rivers; making links with our local area, businesses and people, e.g. visits to our local shops; visitors and workshops in-school, e.g. recycling and Anglian water workshops; trips beyond Ipswich such as the Year 6 residential to Bawdsey Manor. 

Key questions for pupils in Geography:

Investigating Places and Patterns - Can I locate places in the world and their geographical characteristics, including similarities and differences?

Communicating Geographically - Can I develop my geographical skills? Can I describe human and physical features using geographical language?
