Being a Technologist
In Design and Technology we encourage children to express themselves through a variety of mediums including food, textiles and construction and we provide our children with practical learning opportunities that will be transferred to the wider world. The children’s skills are developed using a range of tools, materials and machines, and they are given the time to plan, develop, evaluate and discuss their ideas. Through Design and Technology we aim to build children’s independence, responsibility and confidence. We aim to prepare all children for the challenges ahead, embracing technology and promoting a life-long love of learning.
Through lessons on food, the children are given the opportunity to learn about healthy lifestyles (to support their learning in P.E and PSHE/RSHE and improve their understanding of the health implications of obesity), food safety and hygiene and preparing their own dishes.
Design and Technology is primarily taught through topics. Each child will complete a food, textiles and construction project by the end of every year. The skills taught in these areas are progressive to ensure a thorough learning journey through the schools.
Our school is a member of the D&T Association which supports and champions Design and Technology in schools.
